Background Information
Hailsham Old Pavilion Society (HOPS) was established in 1993 to raise funds to restore the Pavilion Cinema for the use of the community of Hailsham and its surrounding districts, as a cinema and live entertainment venue.

As the owners were in receivership, Wealden District Council issued a complusory purchase order and arranged for necessary work to be carried out to make the building weatherproof. A 31 year lease was arranged to enable HOPS to bring the building back in to use.

HOPS having already raised almost £100,000 from the local community, were successful in their bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund and were awarded £275,000. Local councils and other voluntary organisations gave a great deal of support.

Restoration and refurbishment was completed in November 1999 and HOPS were very proud to present their Extravaganza in the Pavilion in December of that year. The Pavilion officially re-opened in January 2000 under the management of Hailsham Pavilion Limited, also a registered charity.

Fundraising
HOPS continues as a fundraising group to ensure that the Pavilion is able to provide reasonable priced entertainment for the community.

We have a dedicated team of fundraisers and each September / October we plan the following year's activities.

With many events happening there are times when we need help with gifts or donations to the tombola, bric-a-brac or cake stall etc, or even helping out at an event. This of course is not compulsory but it does ease the load on our team.
