Plot Synopsis
In present day Tbilisi, three generations of women - elderly matriarch Eka, long-suffering Marina and attractive student Ada - inhabit the same small apartment. Their lives are as difficult as any in the decaying Georgian capital. They yearn for contact with Eka's son Otar, an émigré now living in France who writes infrequently. When Marina and Ada learn that he has been killed in an accident, the two women, concerned that the news might prove too much for an already ailing Eka, undertake a deception. But their plan looks set to unravel when Eka insists the three of them travel to Paris for a reunion with her son... Blessed with a trio of subtle, finely detailed performances, Julie Bertucelli's debut feature is as generous as it is insightful.
