Plot Synopsis
Of the many films that have been produced about the Holocaust this is one of the most captivating because of the personalities of René and Irene and their abilities to tell their stories firstly as human beings and only secondly as survivors. René and Irene, twins born in Czechoslovakia in 1937, were sent to Auschwitz aged six. They survived due to Dr. Josef Mengele and his ‘scientific’ studies. They lost contact with each other before the liberation and Irene went to a Jewish orphanage and was later sent to the USA by the Save the Children Fund. After several disappointing attempts she was taken in by a Jewish family who not only gave her loving care, but also spent a fortune to help her to locate her twin brother and bring him to America to their home. Their story is inspirational and conveys the dignity and strength of the human spirit.
