Plot Synopsis
“PARADISE LOST" is a tense, unsettling thriller centering around a diverse group of young adventure travelers. After a terrifying bus accident maroons them in a remote Brazilian beach town, they slowly discover that the white sand beaches and lush jungles are concealing a darker, unsettling secret…
The jungles of Brazil - present day.
A beat-up bus carrying locals and tourists dangerously navigates a winding road through the jungles of Brazil – but then careens off the side of the road and winds up dangling precariously over the side of a cliff. Everyone on board evacuates immediately and barely does so just as the old behemoth tips over the edge and crashes violently down the hill. The bus is obliterated.
A group of young twenty-something travelers on board (three Americans, two British buddies and one sexy Australian girl), now find themselves stranded in a beautiful beachfront area awaiting the next bus – a “mere” three days away.
The Americans consist of ALEX (Josh Duhamel), his sister BEA (Olivia Wilde), and her best friend AMY (Beau Garrett). The two Brits are FINN (Desmond Askew) and LIAM (Max Brown). The Aussie is PRU (Melissa George), who lucky for them all, has managed to pick up a bit of Portuguese during her world-travels.
While waiting around, the group befriends each other and decides to make the best out of a bad situation by wandering down to a local bar and party the night away with the locals. Amidst the beer and caprihinias, they meet a friendly young local boy named KIKO. Things are truly looking up.
However, the next morning the tourists awake and discover that all their money and belongings have been stolen. Not only that, the remaining locals now have no desire to aid them. Panicked and with nowhere else to go, Kiko shows up again and offers to lead them to his uncle's house in the jungle where they can safely stay and await the next bus. They begin a long, exhausting hike through the jungle, only stopping once to rest at an amazing swimming hole with caves where they swim and dive in the water. But then Kiko flubs one of his dives and badly injures himself. Panicked, the tourists carry the bleeding Kiko all the way to his uncle's empty house and try to save him.
Once there, a helicopter lands at the house and Kiko’s uncle ZAMORA arrives with his entourage. Zamora is a local madman who believes that American tourists are here trying to kidnap locals and steal their organs to use in American transplant operations. Zamora captures the tourists, locks them up, and proceeds to perform surgery on Amy – while she’s still alive – removing her organs with the goal of taking them to the local hospital to donate to Brazilian kids.
The rest of the group must now fight their way out in a harrowing escape through the jungles and underwater caves before they meet the same terrible fate. With the unexpected help of Kiko, only a few remaining tourists manage make it to safety… but not before putting away Zamora and his men in the process.
