Plot Synopsis

Packing an enormously visual punch and superbly directed by Brit Paul Spurrier, the beautifully crafted P is a ravishing delight that doesn't stint on atmospheric bloodletting.

Tricked into becoming a child prostitute when her grandmother falls sick needing expensive medical treatment, Aaw (the stunning Suangporn Jaturaphut) leaves her rural home to work in a Bangkok go-go bar. Her named changed to Dau she calls on Khmer witchcraft taught by her grandmother, a mor phi/ghost doctor, to make her sleazy existence bearable and settle rival scores. But breaking the strict rules governing black magic spell use, she loses control of her inner evil and it transforms into a phii borb - a classic organ-eating Thai spirit - that hunts the red light district butchering sex tourists before closing in on her friends. From the opening demonic scare to The Exorcist homage ending, P (from the transliteration of the Thai word for ghost as well as the name of the nightclub) is as shockingly disturbing as it is tenderly moving.

In the first ever Thai film directed by a westerner Spurrier (who cameos as the club boss mutilated by a snake blow-job) turns demonic possession into a metaphor for the drug-addled harsh realities of the Asian sex industry and into an unforgettable and mesmerizing genre-savvy experience.
