Plot Synopsis

Lovers of Il Postino, Mediterraneo and even megahit Mamma Mia! should cherish this sun-kissed slice of pure romantic escapism. The fictional island of Amatrello appears to be one of the most idyllic spots on the planet with clear blue skies, shimmering acquamarine seas and coral pink houses providing the breathtaking backdrop to this delightful tale set in 1956. The island has a unique tradition that when a girl turns 18 every boy is invited to bring a gift for her father who will then decide which ardent suitor will have the privilege of accompanying her on a first date. The tradition is scorned by fisherman’s son Marcello (Francesco Mistichelli) until the mayor's delightful daughter Elena (Elena Cucci) returns to the island. Soon the chase is on to find the perfect gift, a challenge that leaves Marcello racing against the clock to complete a daisy chain of bartering that gives him a whole new perspective on the guilty secrets and broken hearts that define the key figures on Amatrello, including his father.
