Plot Synopsis
At the end of the 19th century, Yiddish was spoken by more than 12 million people and embodied 800 years of shtetl life. Someone could go from Poland to Russia to Germany to Belgium and people could still communicate it was the unifying language of the Diaspora. Only 1 million people speak it today.
