Plot Synopsis
It is 1944. Andrei returns to his native Siberian village, not as a hero, but as a deserter, who has escaped from the war hospital. The only person who knows about Andrei's return is his wife Nastya; she is the only person he can trust. Nastya must hide her husband from the rest of the world, including his own parents. With time, Nastya realises that she is carrying Andrei's child. The entire village perceives her as an unfaithful wife, who did not wait for her husband's return from the front. The victory day approaches, sons and husbands return to the village, but Nastya knows that her husband will never be able to come back.
