Plot Synopsis
In the mood for a good old-fashioned weepy? This coming-of-age tale from Argentina opens with an emotional bat mitzvah, as its photogenic heroine embarks upon her teenage years having lost her mother to a terminal illness. A series of letters are her only comfort in times of major life choice or crisis. The latter is supplied by Jenny's Spanish musician boyfriend, who might as well have 'Trouble' tattooed on his forehead: cue a tearful but cathartic journey of self-discovery that takes Jenny across the world from South America to Israel. Will she find the key to her tragic past, and through it, a brighter future?
A rites-of-passage tale in the grand tradition, this may have more sensitive audience members reaching for a third hanky by the time Jenny begins to reconnect with the Jewish faith she lost touch with back in Argentina. Schmaltz overload is, however, averted, thanks to a sympathetic, feisty lead performance from Gimena Accardi, and a darker streak of realism underpinning her odyssey to Jerusalem.
