Plot Synopsis
Married with a young daughter, 30-year-old Claire works in an insurance company in Lille. Her life is stable and uneventful, although the town itself is under the shadow of a killer who has already brutally murdered several women. Whilst investigating a claim Claire meets Laurent, a vet, who seems immediately attracted to her, and sets out to woo her. Laurent is unlike anyone Claire has ever met before, vulnerable and predatory by turns, and despite her initial reluctance she finds herself drawing ever closer to him. In a series of increasingly assured films, Anne Fountaine has become something of a specialist in depicting the disruption of ordered lives (Dry Cleaning and The Way I Killed My Father each tackled the fragility of family relations). In Entre ses mains, concealment, deception and desire are skilfully handled by leads Benoît Poelvoorde and Isabelle Carré, the latter proving herself in her most weighty role to date. And Lille too confounds our expectations, transformed by Fontaine into a rain slicked, neon lit beauty.
