Plot Synopsis
A farm lad wants to escape his silent father and runs to Paris to his older brother who's away covering the war in Kosovo. Upset, he throws a bag of half-eaten pastry into a beggar's lap. A young Arab man berates him. The police arrive, arrest the Arab and deport the beggar. The youth's sister-in-law is upset; it colors her relationship with her husband when he returns from the war. Completely separate lives intersect for the one moment, around the pastry bag, and all are altered. We follow each as repercussions of the incident play out. The film is bookended with deaf children pantomiming words, feelings, and situations: can we guess what they are trying to express? just a few corrections: the boy is Malian, and the girl isn't upset because of her boyfriend's brother...there is another reason that is far more interesting and intriguing. I can't tell you more, otherwise their will be no more surprises!
