Plot Synopsis
There are few films that make you feel sorry for those poor, misunderstood scientists in the genetic engineering business, but the Frankenstein union may have a strong case for a defamation suit against the producers of 'Bats'. It's all the fault of shifty-looking Dr Alexander McCabe (Bob Gunton).
On behalf of the US government, he's been secretly fiddling about with bat DNA to turn these appealing little furry mammals into highly intelligent, malevolent flesh eaters who hunt in packs.
When caring bat boffin Dr Sheila Casper (Dina Meyer) demands to know why, the best he can manage is a puzzled, "I'm a scientist. That's what we do."
Naturally, a couple of McCabe's killer bats have escaped and mysteriously 'infected' the population of nocturnal flutterers in a small Texan town.
No-nonsense, cigar-chewing sheriff Emmett Kimsey (Lou Diamond Phillips) calls in feisty Dr Casper and her wisecracking comedy sidekick Jimmy Sands (Leon) to prevent any more of his citizens from becoming late night snacks. Hordes of CGI and animatronic bats are then unleashed by the FX boys.
